Henderson Environmental are supporting the restoration of Ushaw
Henderson Environmental is proud to announce its involvement in the restoration of the Grade II Ushaw’s Junior House and Grade II* St Aloysius Chapel.
These two historic buildings, located in the Ushaw heritage site near Durham, sustained significant fire damage during an arson attack in July 2023.
The project has been awarded £400,000 in funding from Historic England to prevent further deterioration and ensure the preservation of these treasured buildings.
Ushaw Historic House, Chapels and Gardens, also known as St Cuthbert’s College, is a historical site home to iconic buildings and architecture that played a key part in England’s Roman Catholic heritage.
Founded in 1808 as the successor to the English College in Douai, it played a pivotal role in training priests for the North of England. Today, Ushaw is a vibrant cultural site, welcoming over 100,000 visitors annually.
Henderson Environmental will be handling the removal of asbestos-containing materials from the plant room as part of the broader clearance and stabilisation works.
Henderson Environmental has a proven track record of supporting heritage projects throughout the UK, having successfully removed asbestos-containing materials from sites such as Central Station in Newcastle Upon Tyne and Hawick Town Hall in Scotland.
