Scottish Borders Council
As a trusted licensed contractor for the Scottish Borders Council for over 30 years, our dedicated team were recently tasked with the removal of asbestos from roof tiles at a local swimming pool.
In June 2022, a fire broke out at Peebles Swimming Pool in Port Brae. The swimming pool is a popular leisure facility within the local community and is used by over 580 children who have enrolled on the Peebles Learn to Swim programme. It was critical that professional contractors were employed to make the premises safe again.

Asbestos is often used in fireproofing as it is not flammable. When materials that contain asbestos catch fire, it can release airborne fibres which are dangerous and can cause serious illness or death when inhaled. As the swimming pool roof tiles contained asbestos and the ceilings in the main pool hall had been damaged by the extinguishing of the fire, our team conducted a localised clean to remove any asbestos debris that had been disturbed by the arson attack, reducing the risk of potential exposure.
Refurbishment works
After a thorough assessment of the remaining roof and an asbestos pre-refurbishment survey had been conducted, we were contracted to strip the existing roof which contained ACMs, so that tradespeople could safely install a new roof. The site is also currently undergoing internal renovations and the Scottish Borders Council plan to reopen the refurbished leisure facility to the public in July 2023.
