Northumberland Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust
Our specialist team were recently tasked with conducting an environmental clean at Monkwearmouth Hospital in Sunderland to ensure the safety and cleanliness of the building for patients, visitors, and healthcare staff.
We were contacted by officers from the estate’s department, who work to ensure the engineering and building services are properly maintained, and we were asked to decontaminate the ceiling voids. We started work immediately by sealing off the old area to ensure fully controlled conditions and carried out environmental cleaning of all ceiling voids within admin offices which amounted to 1,620m cubed over four areas.
Once asbestos is airborne it can be inhaled easily and often lead to serious illnesses, therefore we were required to use specialist equipment to keep both our team and those in the building safe.
This project was carried out on a tight schedule with the team working over weekends to keep disruption to a minimum and ensure the overall safety of the hospital premises.
